Howlin’ Hobbit has been playing music and singing since grade school. That was somewhere back in the dark ages.
Howlin’ plays a variety of instruments, but his main “axe” nowadays is the ukulele. (Really, it’s more of a hatchet.) He plays jazz standards, hokum, novelty tunes, original songs and songs penned by his friends. Occasionally something modern will creep into the repertoire as well.
He’s appeared on street corners, public parks, and in the symphony hall. In clubs, living rooms, and on TV. Holiday parties, graduation parties, weddings and backyard barbecues. Everywhere he goes he leaves people smiling and tapping their toes.
Over the years Howlin’ has played guitar and harmonica with several groups including Peanut Envy, Loose Livin’, and Blues Plate Special. He’s played washboard with Dog Mafia, the Emerald City Jug Band and Patsy Fuller, another busker (from the U.K.), and was featured in that capacity (as well as vocals and harmonica) on her CD ‘Twixt Pike & Pine.
Howlin’ is?one of the founders and featured vocalists for Snake Suspenderz?and?also plays ukulele and sometimes harmonica with the group.?He is also the front man for Accidental Rhino, an amorphous band who’s only constant is Howlin’ Hobbit?and 2 or more other musicians. The rotating membership includes bass instruments (mainly upright bass or tuba), soloists (on all sorts of instruments), and percussionists. It’s wonderful to have such talented friends!
He is also available as half of the duo, Hobbit & Hare.
In addition to busking at the Pike Place Market, the Ballard Sunday Market, and other locations in and around Seattle, WA, USA, Howlin’ is concentrating on developing his solo show with an emphasis on house concerts and?burlesque shows, and continuing to play gigs with his bands.
